چکیده

The present study aimed to find the toxicity of aqueous and methanol extracts three different brown macroalgae viz., Padina tetrastromatica, Sargassum wightii Turbinaria conoides against tobacco cutworm, Spodoptera litura. Larval mortality was noticed in both at all concentrations tested a dose-dependent increase after 96 h exposure with 73.33, 56.66, 50.00 per cent extract; 50.00, 46.66 43.33 10 % concentration S. wightii, T. P. respectively. Pre-pupal pupal were recorded showing malformations during growth. Pupation adult emergence also affected by wightii. From results, it is surmised that possess insecticidal potential growth inhibitory properties which can be exploited for eco-friendly management litura possibly other lepidopteran larvae as well.

Identification and comparative expression analysis of odorant binding protein genes in the tobacco cutworm Spodoptera litura

Insect odorant binding proteins (OBPs) are thought to involve in insects' olfaction perception. In the present study, we identified 38 OBP genes from the antennal transcriptomes of Spodoptera litura. Tissue expression profiles analysis revealed that 17 of the 38 SlitOBP transcripts were uniquely or primarily expressed in the antennae of both sexes, suggesting their putative role in chemorecepti...

QTL mapping of antixenosis resistance to common cutworm (Spodoptera litura Fabricius) in wild soybean (Glycine soja)

The common cutworm (CCW; Spodoptera litura Fabricius) is a serious herbivorous insect pest of soybean (Glycine max) in Asia and Oceania. Previously, we identified quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for CCW-antibiosis-resistance, CCW-1 and CCW-2, and antixenosis-resistance, qRslx1 and qRslx2, in the cultivar 'Himeshirazu'. The effects of these QTLs are useful in the breeding of CCW-resistant cultiva...

Genomic Sequence Analysis of Granulovirus Isolated from the Tobacco Cutworm, Spodoptera litura

BACKGROUND Spodoptera litura is a noctuid moth that is considered an agricultural pest. The larvae feed on a wide range of plants and have been recorded on plants from 40 plant families (mostly dicotyledons). It is a major pest of many crops. To better understand Spodoptera litura granulovirus (SpliGV), the nucleotide sequence of the SpliGV DNA genome was determined and analyzed. METHODOLOGY/...

Development and emergence patterns of the tobacco cutworm Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Study of lifecycle patterns and rhythms is important to understand the ecology and evolution of insects. The tobacco cutworm Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is a serious polyphagous pest in Asia, Oceania and the Indian subcontinent. The laboratory investigations of development patterns and circadian rhythms described in this paper have shown that the development duration from egg to...

Response of the Cutworm Spodoptera litura to Sesame Leaves or Crude Extracts in Diet

The effects of extracts of sesame, Sesamum indicum L. (Liamiales: Pedaliaceae), and whole leaves of some selected cultivars of sesame were tested using a natural host Spodoptera litura (F.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Indices taken using the immature stages include; diet utilization, growth and development and induction of detoxification enzymes. The results indicate that S. litura generally sele...
